Celebrating 100 Years
JIAS is the ONLY Jewish social service agency in Canada solely dedicated to providing settlement services to immigrants and refugees. We are the community leader in our understanding of their needs and have the broadest range of resources, including trauma-informed counselling and a formal partnership with the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Join us for the Next 100 Years
Since 1922, JIAS has been welcoming and settling Jewish immigrants and refugees. Today, we are the only Jewish agency in Canada solely dedicated to the settlement of immigrants and refugees.
Refuge Canada Tent and Love the Stranger October 13 - November 28, 2022 at Holy Blossom Temple
In celebration of 100 years of Jewish Immigrant Aid Services in Canada, JIAS Toronto invites you to a dual exhibit.
Refuge Canada Tent is a traveling exhibit created by the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21. It is designed to resemble a tent used in refugee camps today. The exhibit also investigates Canada’s historical track-record of responding to refugees.
The Ontario Jewish Archives has curated a complementary exhibit, Love the Stranger. The exhibit recalls that many Canadian Jews were refugees over the last century – we too were “strangers in a strange land” – and that JIAS has played a central role in welcoming and supporting Jewish refugees from around the world.

JIAS co-presents Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story with Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company November 17th, 8 PM
JIAS is excited to partner with the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company to co-present the opening night of Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story at the Greenwin Theatre (Meridian Arts Centre).
A hilarious and edgy love story interwoven with a high-energy Klezmer concert, this unique music-theater hybrid is inspired by the true tale of two Jewish Romanian refugees finding love after arriving on the shores of Canada in 1908. Featuring a not-to-be-missed performance by genre-bending sensation Ben Caplan, Old Stock has been wildly popular with audiences and critics alike across Canada, Great Britain and New York.
In celebration of 100 years of JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Services) in Canada, buy a ticket and part of your ticket price will help support JIAS Toronto’s life-changing sponsorship of diverse refugees.
