As a SAH, JIAS can sponsor refugees to come to Canada through the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program. JIAS partners with volunteer groups, formally called Constituent Groups, across the GTA. These groups include synagogues, community and social groups, and families. Constituent Groups provide financial and/or settlement support for refugees and their families during their first year in Canada. JIAS staff work closely with Constituent Groups to ensure that refugees are set up and welcomed upon arrival and connected with proper resources that support their settlement process here in Canada.

To date, JIAS has sponsored refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Rwanda, Eritrea, and Vietnam.

Contact refugee@jiastoronto.org for more information about sponsoring a refugee or forming a Constituent Group.

As a sponsorship agreement holder, JIAS was a perfect partner for Holy Blossom, who wanted to assist as soon as possible and to do so with an experienced organization. It has truly been a perfect partnership – JIAS has incredible professionals who have given us expert guidance and direction, and the Holy Blossom community has been incredibly generous… JIAS provided invaluable direction as to what types of committees we should create and where we should focus our efforts. As we welcomed our sixth and seventh families… I turned back to my original notes from JIAS to ensure that we had all areas covered. For all of our families, Holy Blossom and JIAS have collaborated effortlessly.”
