JIAS 100 Year Timeline
A century ago, Canadian Jews organized to provide support for Jewish refugees fleeing pogroms in Eastern Europe and coming to join family and landsmen in the “new country.” In 1922, Jewish Immigrant Aid Services was formally established and over the course of the 20th century, 18 JIAS offices operated across the country to help meet the needs of newcomers to our country and communities.
Today, JIAS Toronto is the only Jewish agency in Canada solely dedicated to the settlement of immigrants and refugees.
In honour of 100 years of JIAS in Canada, we are excited to share this virtual timeline, looking back on 100 years of serving vulnerable newcomers from around the world.
We invite you to join us for the next 100 years as we continue to build a vibrant Jewish community and a strong, diverse Canada! Subscribe to our newsletter, volunteer or consider making a gift to help support vulnerable newcomers.
